FDCareer.com is an online community that helps college students and young professionals develop themselves towards their career goals through a gaming touch. We feel that by making career developing more fun, it will seem less intimidating and people will be comfortable in starting early instead of when they need to pay the bills. Through FDCareer.com, you can research and learn about what fellow FDers say about different places to work for, develop yourself professionally by completing real-life quests, and monitor your progress in life by seeing your RPG stats.

We believe that so many people hate their jobs because they did not have information and opportunities during colleges. They either didn't know themselves well, didn't know what's out there, or did not have the opportunity to get their dream jobs. Through our site, you can know exactly which company culture fits you the best, what new skills should you learn outside of class, and how do grow as a professional throughout your life.

That's an excellent question! We are planning to build a resume scraper to make creating your character faster, easier, and stronger. However, most resume scrapers out there that we've seen are pretty terrible, and we don't want to release anything unless it is significantly better to the ones we've seen. Because of the magical nature of our search box, if such an event is to occur, click the "people" search tab, so it is no longer on the "companies" tab.

The Briefcase is a collection of everything you have done, everything you took interest in, and everything you are (on our site). Instead of finding the same quests, contributions, followed companies, comments that you are interested in, you can just go to your briefcase.

FDCareer.com uses a complex algorithm that analyzes your work experience, quest completions, participation in clubs and organizations, quality of friends on the site, and how actively you contribute to the website. We are constantly seeking to improve our complex algorithm and make it even more complex so you can never figure it out.

Since it is a big (and sensitive) task to calculate everyone's levels, we are constantly aiming to improve the algorithm we use to make sure it more accurately reflects your level in your selected profession. As a result, levels may fluctuate every once in awhile. We can only promise that, whatever system we use, it will be fairly applied to everyone on the site. We try our best to make the levels meaningful.

There are way too many intangible qualities that our site cannot measure. Even though we try to make sure the system is as good as it can be, it still will not be perfect. If you feel that there is an obvious flaw in the system, send us a message and give us your reasons. We will try to accommodate that into our system upgrades.

FD Feeds are news events that feeds you the newest data on our site. Instead of searching for changes that you care about on our site, it simply delivers it to you.

Activities from your friends, including leveling up, completing quests, mutual friend matchups, and more will be recorded in the feeds. Changes regarding company seesaws that you are interested about will also be notified to you through the Feeds.

When someone adds a company into their profile, a seesaw is automatically added, even if they did not contribute their knowledge yet. That's why you have empty seesaws. Fill them up with your knowledge!

The FD Cache is a user-generated and user-friendly way to learn about companies. It divides a company into five categories: work, culture, compensation, growth, and competitiveness. People contributes to these areas and others can feed or starve the contributions to make it weigh more on the seesaw function.

Absolutely! FD Career was founded on the belief that employment information should be widely and freely available, so adding a new company is as easy as clicking the link at the bottom of any search results page.

It just means a lot of people have contributed towards the company, and many other have fed these contributions.

When you feel that a contribution block on a seesaw is very informative and valuable, you can "feed" the block, and it will weigh more on the seesaw. If a block is meaningless and not useful, you can "starve" the block, and it will weight less. It will eventually disappear if it is starved for many times. We call this being "sand starved."

When a block gets too big, if stops growing in size and simply changes color. The more weight it is, the darker the color. Also, when we get a lot of contributions, everything gets scaled down once it reaches a certain size. That way our model will become more scalable.

The briefcase contains your previously posted blocks, comments, feeds and starves, and quests, all of the companies you're currently tracking on your feed.

Quests are activities you can do to level up on our site. They are based on productive things to learn and do that will get you closer to your desired career. Quests could range from interview and entrepreneur, become popular on Twitter, to build a software with Python.

Most of the quests will be verified automatically by the machine, as long as you follow the instructions. For the ones that need more human intellect,at first, the FD Staff grades through the quests and makes sure everyone's answers meet a standard amount of quality. After awhile, those in the community who have achieved a lot through initiative and quests will become Quest Masters and grade through the quest.
