=An overall view of Bain & Company?>
In 2005, I was hired as a consultant for $200,000 and I received $160,000 in end of year bonuses.
Wow! Are you serious? That's a lot!

Post MBA Consultants are given 2-4 years to be promoted to Manager. After you become a Manager, you have a 4-5 year opportunity to advance to Partner. If you are not ready to be promoted, but you have shown the potential and the ability to one day be promoted and bring value to the firm, then you will be given another opportunity to show your worth.
Bain has a travel when necessary policy which is great. This means that we get less face-time with the client, but our fact-time is truly 100% value driven. Our consultants get to spend more time at home with their friends and family rather than at airports. Bain is about productivity, and I can honestly say that everyone at the company tried to be as efficient and productive with their time as possible.
The people at Bain are very supportive and collaborative. Everyone at the office is very young and it makes it a very fast-paced and fun atmosphere. The company does great in giving us a good work/life balance. Expect to work an average of 60 hours a week, which is extremely reasonable for consultants.
I was hired as a Manager in 2004 and given 135K and received 100K in bonuses at the end of the year. My signing bonus was 20K. The perks are great. We get gym membership, cell phone, parking, and travel.
Wow! Even though this is a whole lot, the compensation of the other Bain Consultant is still more than the Manager. That guy must be on fire.

I am currently a Consultant and get $125,000 in salary and $30,000 in bonuses. Bain give you many perks like dinner (if you're staying late at the office), a Blackberry, and transportation when necessary.
The people here are friendly and welcoming. Bain does a great job at maintaining your work/llife balance, so you never have to get stuck on 4-days-out-of-the-week projects. The Managers and Partners at Bain have an open door policy and value your opinions and feedback. The Managers are very easy to talk to and you never feel looked down upon.
The people in the office are smart and the opportunities for promotion are limitless. Promotion is done in a unique was (at least in our office) because the announcement for promotions is posted at the office for everyone to see. I like this honest way of doing things. I have seen others get upset because people know that they didn't get a promotion, but this just weeds out the people who aren't good for the company.
