The hours at Bain are long and the work can be stressful. Because of the merit based system (your compared to your peers all the time), it can get a little cut-throat at times and I've seen Consultants try to step on each other just to get ahead. Outwardly, you'll see a close and friendly company; internally, the employees are aggressive and do what they must to get ahead.

I am currently a Consultant and get $125,000 in salary and $30,000 in bonuses. Bain give you many perks like dinner (if you're staying late at the office), a Blackberry, and transportation when necessary.

The people in the office are smart and the opportunities for promotion are limitless. Promotion is done in a unique was (at least in our office) because the announcement for promotions is posted at the office for everyone to see. I like this honest way of doing things. I have seen others get upset because people know that they didn't get a promotion, but this just weeds out the people who aren't good for the company.

The office culture is friendly and close-knit, promotions are given based on merit, and the company sets you up with mentors and tracks your progress so that you get a great overall experience. Bain truly puts your career first and will help you get the best possible experience. When its time to move on, the name will definitely get you places and you will be respected wherever you go.
