Promotions are completely merit based, and at the same time, there is no up or out policy. Its like having the best of both worlds. You don't have to stress about performing better than your peers, and if you do put it the above-and-beyond effort, you will get the rewards.

The culture is welcoming and supportive. The unique thing about monitor is that it has an entrepreneurial culture as well. I have done well in the company and am given a lot of responsibility because I deserve. I compare myself to my peers in other consulting firms and I have much more responsibility than them.

The office culture is very positional, but at the same time, everyone manages to have fun in and out of the office. I have hung out with my peers at many happy hours and company events.

Traveling at work varies depending on the client. Like any consulting firm, we do travel to the client site when necessary to gather information or to give a presentation. I like that we don't have the 4-days-at-the-client-site policy. It gives me a great work/life balance and I'm able to manage my schedule very well.

The company is truly merit based and gives everyone the opportunity to take on as much responsibility as they can prove that they can handle. The opportunities are great; I have seen non-MBAs manage MBAs and I have seen younger professional manage older professionals, all depending on how qualified the individual is.

Monitor is a great place to start your career and then go take to business school. Monitor professionals that are alumni from the business school you wish to apply to will help you out with the application process and business schools look highly at Monitor professionals. The company does a great job at training you and preparing you for your future career.

It is relatively difficult to get into the company. Though we are selective, we have hired from non-top business schools. You don't have to be from an Ivy League school to get into Monitor, but you do have to show great potential and the ability to bring great results to clients. The interview process is very tough and you should feel proud if you get an offer.

I do not like that there is not an up or out policy here at Monitor. I put a lot of hard work into this company, and it is frustrating to see some people just cruise in the company - do only the bare minimum for each project - and are allowed to stay in their secure positions for many years. For someone like me who is constantly pushing to move up, it can be frustrating to see these people allowed to stay in the company and not work as hard as me.

There is no up or out policy within the firm. You can advance as quickly or as slowly within the firm as you want. This is great for the company culture because there is no cut throat mentality and everyone tries to help each other move up within the firm. The stress of having to outperform your peers in order to advance is also not present.

There is easy access to Managers and Partners in the firm. They hold true to the open door policy and I have walked into their offices and talked to them about client projects, sports, and life outside of work. The management truly value my opinion and make me feel like my contributions here at Monitor are truly worth it.

The is no up or out policy here at Monitor. You are encouraged to move up within the company, and are fully given opportunities to do so. If you do well on projects and go above and beyond what is expected of you, then expect to be promoted very fast.

The recruiting process is very tough. When you make it past all the interviews, you know that you are among very bright, fun, and ambitious people. It is definitely not easy to get in the company.

Work is tough and you are expected to do a lot. The great thing is that the company leaves it up to us to make time for a balanced life. I can go to the gym in the afternoon, have dinner with friends, and then come right back into the office and finish my project. This gives us a feeling of empowerment and ownership of our career.

Monitor Group is truly flexible with the work that we do. We don't need to travel to the client site unless we truly have to, we can take work home when necessary, and they give us the opportunity for a fantastic work/life balance.

As a Consultant, I'm paid $65,000 with end of year bonuses of $27,000. As a top performer, you will get huge bonuses. If you don't perform well, your bonus will be poor to none.
