There is a lot of boring traveling involved with audit. You don't really travel to different states, you just travel to clients around the city to perform your audit duties. Its nice getting to be able to sleep in your own bed every night, but sometimes I want to be sent to an office across the country to experience something new.

You get a lot of responsibility in this firm because the office is not big and you get a lot of face time with the Managers. Since you work directly with the top management, you get to learn from them and receive their guidance.

The small office culture is perfect for me. Even though the name isn't as well known as Big Four firms, the training, responsibility, and opportunities that you receive are as good as or even better than the Big Four. You always work directly with clients (even during your first years at the firm) so you definitely gain great leadership qualities.

The company management has an open door policy. They make an effort to meet you as a new hire and introduce themselves. It definitely helps to make you feel more comfortable and more welcomed at the company.

I like the office environment that I work in. It is a small office with few people, so everyone knows each other well and we feel like friends rather than just colleagues.

The hours are ridiculously long and the clients and project are not fun or prestigious. Choose another mid-sized accounting firm to work for because you will not enjoy your stay here.

The office culture is very informal. This is usually seen as a positive, but I feel that it is so informal to the point that people don't work hard and feel pressured to finish a project. Everyone is always relaxed and there never seems to be an urgent feeling in the air to get the work done. I'm someone who wants to finish work immediately so that I can relax at home.

I am not happy at with my work at all. I do not feel appreciated and the management does not give feedback about the work that you do. Without any feedback, how do they expect me to improve? I think the company would be a much better place to work at if there was a more formalized feedback system to make everyone accountable to their responsibilities.

The hours here are horrible. You will not be working a regular 40 hour work week. Expect to work an average of 50 hours a week when it is not busy season and up to 70 hours a week during the busy season. If you don't finish your work at the office, you'll have to finish it at home or come in on the weekends to finish up.

People at McGladery are often promoted before they're ready to be promoted. There is a high turnover rate in the company and the Managers are not great leaders. The training programs do not prepare you for your position and the company suffers because of it.

There are a lot of opportunities for growth. If you work hard and stand out, then you will be promoted a lot quicker than you might like. Although, the training is not great and you'll feel very lost when you get a promotion, its always nice to have more responsibility and a pay raise.
