Growth is all political at Amgen. If you want to move up within the company, you better get a Manager or Partner on your side. If you don't, you will never get the promotion that you are looking for. It's not enough to work hard and stand out, you really need to find a mentor/ally with a lot of influence to fight for you when it comes time for promotions.

Growth potential is extremely negative in the company. Pay wise, you are capped at 10% within each group and the opportunities for advancement are very limited. This leads to a lot of back-stabbing and a cut throat culture within teams because everyone wants to get ahead of everyone else. The management makes it seem like you have to really step on your peers to stand out.

The work force at the workers level are diverse, however it gets less diverse once it hits the management level. Often, it's who you know rather than what you know when it comes to advancement. There are a lot of cases where suck ups gets the promotion while the work horse remains the work horse.
