As a summer analyst, I received $800 a week.
The opportunities for advancement are limited. You are able to be promoted in the company, but it is very difficult and it may take many years for you to see a promotion. The pay is good, you have a lot of responsibility, but you don't really get the promotion as often as you might like.
The company is full of hard working and fun people. We truly have the work hard and play harder mentality. The office environment is serious and professional, but you can always throw a joke or two around and everyone will have a good laugh. Company events are always fun and enjoyable, and many people let loose and have a great time.
My offer was $65,000 with a $10,000 signing bonus. I was hired straight out of my undergrad. My year end bonus runs from $20,000 all the way to $50,000.
Monday through Thursday is business professional. Friday is business casual. This is typical for investment banks. You do have that "investment banker" mentality and feel like you are above everyone else.
The work is typical for any I-Bank. You will have fun work to do like financial modeling and running ratios, at other times you will be putting together books, binders, and making excel sheets look pretty. The great thing about the company is its small office size, which means we get a lot of face time with the management and the clients.
The company takes great care of you. Your overall experience is amazing, the people in the company are amazing, and the company perks just rock. Yes, the hours are ridiculously long and hard, and you'll never sleep... but so what! If you want to be an investment banker, you already know what to expect. Now you just need to find out what company fits you best.
The company is very hierarchical. The upper management has pretty much all of the control in the company and first to third years really don't have much say. We can't choose our projects, can't choose who we want to work with, and get worked to death.
You will work very hard. Expect 80-110 hour a week. Yes, this is very extreme, but it goes along with being in a small investment banking firm. The great thing is that you will be working on high level work. I create financial models, attend client meetings, and work very closely with the top management in the company. Yes, you will do a lot of grunt work, but the experience is un-matched.
The firm is composed of very impressive people. You will find some of the smartest, and most ambitious young professionals in this company. The interview process is very difficult and we only accept top-notch people. Everyone really has an incredible resume.
I work an average of 90 hours a week. The hours are long, but what can you expect, it's investment banking. The people in the office make the experience worth while.
The company environment is friendly and composed of hard working professionals. Everyone always looks to help each other in their careers and is very supportive. I remember when I had trouble with a project, I told my colleague on the team that I needed help, and she immediately walked me step by step through the entire process. I really appreciated her help.
