=An overall view of American Media, Inc.?>
The work is quite stressed. There are also a lot of things that may challenge your ethics value. However, that is typical in the media business. There also isn't a whole lot of training. They kinda throw you in the water and see if you can swim or not.
A lot of powertripping goes on in the company.Communication is never too candid, and people are all watching for you to make mistakes. This isn't a place to work if you are those who believe that your workplace should be one big family.
For a reporter, the company pays over $57,000 with benefits. There are also work-related bonuses that is useful for people.
The biggest advantage of working for this firm, is that the compensation is usually way above market pay. They pay pretty healthily, although I'm not sure if it is completely worth the sub-standard work environment.
I like the company overall, but I feel that there is too much favoritism. The beauracracy of corporate life is easily felt here.
The work itself is not particularly difficult, but work-life balance isn't that great, in the sense that there are no holiday breaks. The biggest part of the work nature is the lack of trust that makes people work in semi-isolation.
The company has a very disfunctional culture in the sense that people don't treat each other in a straight forward and candid mode. People are always hiding things from one another. There is little trust developed within the company and people view each other as competition. The HR department also does a terrible job in mediating conflicts, as well as returning calls for new hires.
