=An overall view of General Electric Company?>
I feel more like a slave than an employee working in GE. In general. we are expected to work 80-90 hours per week. Along with long hours of working hours, we are also expected to accomplish those "nearly impossible goals" that our shortsighted managers set up. It makes me feel extremely exhausted everyday after work.
GE is one of the highly competitive firms to get in...and stay in! Because of the CEO Jack Welch's 20/70/10 rule (top 20% rewarded, bottom 10% fired) people need to constantly try their best, and this forms a highly competitive culture. It's an environment that may or may not be for you.
The benefit in GE is good in the international department that we would have total accommodation and living coverage. However, our managers do not consider our family issues and provide no incentives or support at all that they just move us around the countries as much as they want.
The growth opportunities are very small. GE is like some of other companies in the industries that for employees with good moral are hard to advance. Employees need to have good relationship with their top in order to advance more quickly than any other folks in the department.
One good thing in GE is that even though the official dress code requires employees to dress formal, it seems more like it is up to the employees' personal preferences to follow or not. The bad thing is that in the company, executing the project's goal is the only thing that those short-term goals driven managers would care about.
