eBay tries to hit the midpoint for industry salaries. There are annual option grants and raises, and twice yearly bonuses. Regular classes are offered, and you get up to $5K a year reimbursement for related external classes.

eBay encourages career development. Most people have natural growth with promotions every 2 years. Stars move up faster. Once you're in leadership, you'll get tapped to lead bigger and bigger teams. They're also supportive of horizontal movement. Tech support to Product Manager. Product Manager to Evangelist. And so on.

You usually don't get hired without some experience, though that can include an internship. I had a Philosophy degree and industry experience. A Masters of some kind will probably get you in.
Interview process includes a phone screen, two rounds of in-person interviews (with 4-6 people each), and a background check. You interview with people across the company, each testing for different skills. When I interviewed, they were all really cool and smart and real, and that sold me on the company.

We release code to the site every two weeks, so it's very fast-paced, but it all runs surprisingly smoothly.
Most people work 9-5, but check their email at least once at night. Only 30% of people use Blackberrys for constant access.

The work is interesting, and fast-paced, and really cutting edge. But even better, when you go to work, you know you're really making a difference in people's lives. Artisens in remote villages can find a market for their handcrafted goods. People with reduce mobility can buy and sell out of their own home. People can supplement their income with eBay sales, or even make it their full career. It's great to know that you're helping to make that happen.
