Working for the University was both a positive and negative experience. It's an extremely safe job, so if you're looking for security you'll do well with the state or public university. If you're a super-motivated go-getter however, this will get boring fast. People are awarded more on senority & time served than on achievement, which can become frustrating. And you will most likely work with some people who are seemingly without motivation or incompetent.

The great benefit I did get from working for a business school however was I learned all the basic office management tasks, got to interact with the Dean of the school, and made a ton of connections in the local business community. Besides the fact that a large part of the faculty were somewhat negative/apathetic during some big university changes, this is where I really learned to network, and some of the connections have helped power my career to this day.
