Great office culture in the Santa Monica office. The person I worked with was young, fun, energetic, and always kept the place upbeat. Our team leader was one of the best speakers I have ever met and was someone I could truly look up to as far as negotiating and public speaking.

The downside was that there were very few women in the office. Pretty much all of the agents were men in their early thirties. Very male dominant industry.

I was paid $10/hour as a summer intern. I was payed under the table so I didn't get taxed, which was quite nice. Working in Santa Monica was a hassle because parking was extremely hard to come by.

There really isn't any growth here at RE/MAX that I could see. You either sell your properties and make money, or you don't. I think that in order for you to become a team leader, you need to show your worth and demonstrate that you can close deals. It doesn't matter how old or young you are, if you can command a team, then you can be a team leader and make BIG bucks.

Real Estate is not hard to get into. All you have to do is get your license, and you're pretty much in. However, in order to succeed, it does get very competitive. Since the barrier to entry is very low, you need to really stand out amongst all of your peers to make a sell happen. I have seen competition in the office get pretty hectic.

I was an intern at RE/MAX Commercial brokerage and I got paid under the table. I researched building and property listings, inputed them on an excel and access database, and made sure all of the current data was accurate. I didn't learn much from my work there, it was just a place to get some money over the summer. Since I didn't have my real estate license, I couldn't make any phone calls to try and make some deals.
